My husband and I moved to the Matthews area over thirty years ago and have enjoyed watching Charlotte and the surrounding areas grow into the dynamic region it is today. Charlotte is now one of the largest and fastest growing cities in the country. Matthews has grown too but it still retains its small town flavor.

Matthews NC Snapshot
Matthews is located on the southeastern edge of Charlotte North Carolina. Charlotte's steady growth includes Matthews but it retains its small town atmosphere despite the growth. The town's population in 2019 was 33,138.
Why does Matthews have two zip codes?
When you research Matthews NC homes for sale, you will notice that some addresses have the 28105 zip code and others 28104. The reason Matthews is assigned two zip codes is because the Matthews post office delivers mail in two different counties: Mecklenburg County and Union County.
Assigned the 28105 zip code, the incorporated Town of Matthews lies wholly within Mecklenburg County. Zip code 28104 is given to addresses served by the Matthews post office in Union County NC. These areas include unincorporated Union County but also parts of the towns of Stallings, Weddington and Wesley Chapel. The chart at the right includes information only about the Town of Stallings in 28104. Stallings abuts the Town of Matthews at the county line.
How do Matthews NC 28105 and Matthews NC 28104 Compare?
The chart to the right compares certain features of the two areas. Matthews has almost twice as many people as Stallings. Median income is higher in 28104. The median home value is also higher in 28104. A major reason for the higher home values is that the homes and neighborhoods tend to be newer in 28104.
